Fun Facts about Honey Bees!

    1. More than 90% of the bees in a colony are female.
      • And during the winter, it is normally 100% female.
    2. It takes about 8 pounds of honey to provide the workers with enough energy to make 1 pound of wax.
    3. To produce 1 pound of honey, the forager bees will have to visit about 2 million flowers and travel over 55,000 miles (twice around the world) and is the lifetime work of about 800 bees.
    4. The average worker bee only lives for about 6 weeks.
    5. A honeybee is the only insect that produces food for humans.
    6. Honey is the only food that contains pinocembrin, an antioxidant associated with improved brain functioning.
